APnc 06/26 0206 Falwell-Remark CHARLOTTE (AP) -- The Rev. Jerry Falwell says the modern charismatic movement that teaches a "prosperity theology" is satanic in origin, according to a tape recording aired by a Charlotte television station. The tape was made Wednesday by WPCQ-TV in an elevator at PTL headquarters in Fort Mill, S.C., as Falwell was leaving a PTL board meeting. Falwell said on the tape, "the modern charismatic movement, in my opinion, is of satanic origin." But Falwell spokesman Mark DeMoss said Thursday Falwell wasn't referring to the entire movement. "... Rev. Falwell made it clear he was not referring to speaking in tongues or the main line charismatic-pentecostal movement or denominations," DeMoss said. "He has never believed the charismatic movement itself to be of satanic origin. He does, however, feel very strongly and stands by his remark about prosperity theology, meaning if you are spiritual, you will be healthy and wealthy. That teaching is an absolute lie." Last page !
