MILWAUKEE (AP) -- A campus religious organization whose president resigned because of rumors about an adulterous relationship decided to tell the public because it wants to be honest about the matter, a spokesman says. James Kay of Franksville, board chairman of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, said the organization hopes the departure of the Rev. Gordon MacDonald won't be equated with the sex scandal involved in the resignation of Jim Bakker, former head of the PTL television ministry. MacDonald, who could not be reached for comment, resigned Friday. He was quoted in a statement as asking the Madison-based organization to forgive him. "We just feel it would be too bad if we were put in the same situation as PTL," Kay told a Milwaukee Sentinel interviewer. "I think there is a substantial difference in the way Gordon handled this."
