It cost #31.99 (which is about $48 + postage if anyone over the pond wants a copy). As expected it contains the original 3 disks, each with additional tracks. The total times on the disks were: The Madcap Laughs 57'14 Barrett 56'14 Opel 65'16 It comes in a thick box, about 9"x5"x1". The front says: -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ SYD BARRETT Crazy Diamond Founder member of PINK FLOYD contains the original albums "The Madcap Laughs" & "Barrett" plus the rarities collection "Opel" - all include bonus tracks of alternate versions plus a twenty-four page book -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ The colourful cover consists of cartoon-type pictures representing some of the songs on the albums, e.g. dominoes, rats, wine (Wined and Dined), kangaroo (Clowns & Jugglers), a bird (Birdie Hop), an elephant's trunk (Effervescing Elephant) and many others I haven't figured outyet. At the top, we see just Syd's eyes! An excellent cover IMHO (Better than anything Hipgnosis could have come up with :-) I'll talk about the individual CDs in separate articles. Also, when I get round to typing in the words from the book, I'll post that as well. BTW, the only lyrics listed are Clowns & Jugglers, Terrapin, Baby Lemonade and Opel. (I was hooping they would put lyrics for ALL songs like they did on Shine On). It's No Good Trying 5 *16. Love You 1 *17. Love You 3 *18. She Took A Long Cold Look At Me 4 *19. Golden Hair 5 Octopus take 2 is fun to listen to. Syd trys to sing it just a little too high and can't quite reach some notes. The timing is a bit odd in parts and he gets the lyrics wrong and repeats parts of them! Love You (both 1 and 3) are fairly different to the final version (take 4). The guitar rhythm is different (particularly on take 1) and the bits he normally sings high ("Oh you dig it..." and "Good time rocker woman...") are sung low. She Took A Long Cold Look At Me take 4 - I like this version a lot! Golden Hair take 5 has Syd singing two different parts. Interesting. -------------------------------------------+-------------------------------- | Geoff Rimmer calling from England | "I've always thought of going | | 011 -- 44 -\-- 562 -- 884497 HOME | back to a place where you can | | \- 21 -- 236 -\-- 7051 WORK | drink tea and sit on the | | (grimmer@nyx.cs.du.edu) \- 2494 FAX | carpet" - Syd Barrett | -------------------------------------------+--------------------------------
