Been there, done that. (I have around 100 volumes of antievolution literature in my library.) My impression of creationism was -much- more favorable -before- I explored it than after. I originally suspected that creationists were probably wrong in their major conclusions, but might be raising some good questions and making some valid points. I was genuinely amazed when I spent several days in the library, chasing out footnotes related to several seemingly suggestive creationist arguments, to find how uniformly excremental the quality of creationist scholarship was. The main thing I learned was the rhetorical strength that could be accrued by throwing nearly all standards of intellectual integrity and honesty out the window. It wasn't pretty.
