From: Larry Meyering To: Larry Sites 94-05-30 08:%:04 Subject: Fox quote Larry, this is one of the Fox quotes that I have. "The geological record is extremely imperfect and this fact will to a large extent explain why we do not find interminable varieties [transitions] connecting together all the extinct and existing forms of life by the finest graduated steps. He who rejects these views on the nature of the geological record will rightly reject my whole theory" Darwin 1859 pg 342 Origin of the Species. This one is hard to believe. Its hard to believe that anyone would take something so far out of context, *add* in words that change the whole meaning and then say that its a quotation. But then - the lying professional creationists are not known for their ability to tell the truth. Its from the last sentence of the first paragraph of the "Summary" of chapter 10 page 342. The real sentence reads as follows; "All these causes taken conjointly, must have tended to make the geological record extremely imperfect, and will to a large extent explain why we do not find interminable varieties, connecting together all the extinct and existing forms of life by the finest graduated steps. "He who rejects these views on the nature of the geological record will rightly reject my whole theory." Note: The inclusion of the word "is" ie "record is extremely" and how that inclusion changes the meaning of even this small snippet of a quote. Note: "All these causes taken conjointly" convently left out of the quote by Fox. Why would he leave out these seemingly innocent words? Because it then begs the question - What causes? - The causes that Darwin dealt with for the proceeding 63 pages! That's what causes! Note: The additions of the words "this fact". This is not what Darwin said. But then if you are going to change what was said to make it agree with what you want it to say - why not make it sound as good as you can make it. Larry
