   In the document giving CoS and its subordinate organizations 
tax-exempt status is this statement; "You are required to make a copy of 
your group exemption application, and supporting documents, and your 
exemption letter available for public inspection... see Internal Revenue 
Service Notice 88-120, 1988-2 C.B. 454, for additional information."
  This means, I think, that Church of Scientology Interational, The Way 
To Happiness Foundation, Religious Technology Center, and the 23 other 
subordinate organizations, MUST show you the public their 1023 supporting 
documentation and other stuff when you ask to see it.
   I did this in Los Angeles with CSI, and was told to come to the 
offices of then Bowles and Moxon.  I was given about 2 boxes full of 
stuff and a pile of papers about 14 inches high.  A guy sat there 
watching me the whole time, and he photocopied pages I wanted and mailed 
them to me (for a nominal fee).  I also visited the IRS building in DC 
and looked at the 1023 documentation there, which was 2 shelves full, and 
curiously different in some respects to what I was shown in LA, although 
it is supposed to be the same stuff.
   So, any of you researchers can ask to see the 1023 documentation of 
any of the 26 church sub organizations precisely BECAUSE they are given 
tax exemption.  
   And when you go, let us know what you find.
   Of course you must give the organization notice of when you want to 
see this material so they can make it available.  The IRS in DC asks for 
10 days' notice, but the church in LA let me see the stuff the next day 
after I asked.

*DISCLAIMER* I am not an attorney, but I feel the IRS document is written 
in plain english and that the above is correct.  My own experience 
supports the above opinion.
