The huge and influential computer geek website http://www.slashdot.org announced today they are, for the first time, forced to delete a post containing Scientology "copyrighted" materials (the OT III level).
They describe themselves as "heartbroken" because of they have an open site and free speech is their core belief. But they decided not to jeopardize their site or the privacy of their readers: http://slashdot.org/articles/01/03/16/1256226.shtml
The good news is Slashdot is fighting back by listing links TO the Fishman document containing the forbidden materials.
Plus they list Karen Spaink, http://www.xenu.net , Lisa MacPherson Trust and other great critic sites. They link to the copyright law itself, and end by encouraging slashdotters to write their Senator or Congressmen, and provide the links.
Here's new one for me - Tips for writing your Senator or Congressman:
The article is followed by dozens of blistering comments from slashdotters.
My favorite (note slashdot is owned by Andover.net):
"They should change their name from Andover to Bendover" And similar criticism about the dangers of censorship. Plus some harsh words about the cult, and how it is getting MORE negative publicity from all this.
