I don't regard it as unsubstantiated. Friends who work in bookstores
report that, when a new Hubbard book is released, they have several people
come in and buy five or six copies with their credit cards. Always the same
people, by the way. Local used bookstores tend to get glutted with the books
shortly after.
The Time magazine article (if I recall) claimed that bookstore clerks
sometimes find the books in the boxes, already pre-stickered- as though the
books were bought, turned in to the Church, and then sent out as 'new' copies
to bookstores.
