Swedish sleuth claims Lisa Marie Presley's dead

The King is dead.
So is his daughter.
Or so says the Internet, which has managed to one-up the National Enquirer
on the Lisa Marie Presley/Michael Jackson psychodrama.
If you're one of those people who believe that Elvis Presley is still
alive and Paul McCartney is still dead, then you're going to love the Lisa
Marie Home Page (http://www.docs.uu.se/y89hbo/presley/lisa.html).
You'll love it even if you don't believe these pop myths, because it's
almost too weird for words.
Operated out of Sweden by Hakan Borglund of the Uppsala University School
of Engineering, the Lisa Marie Home Page purports to provide "evidence"
that Elvis' daughter disappeared in 1977, the same year the King of Rock
died (or was reported dead, take your pick).
Borglund claims she was abducted by the Church of Scientology. She was
replaced with a double, the woman who last year married Jackson and who
last month was interviewed with him by Diane Sawyer.
Why? Because the Scientologists, of whom Lisa Marie is reportedly a
member, didn't want to lose control of the Presley estate millions. The
church is supposedly planning to open a centre this year near Graceland,
the Presley home in Memphis, and needs the cash.
Among Borglund's clues to this incredible story is an interview with
Vester Presley, Elvis' loony uncle, who apparently also believes that the
real Lisa Marie is gone and a fake Lisa Marie has taken her place.
"But the girl in the papers, that's not her?" Borglund asks Vester
Presley.
"It's all a lie," Presley says. (You can download a tape of the
interview.) The photographic clues include a computer-enhanced image of
the way Lisa Marie should have looked in 1995.
Borglund labors to prove his case, but there are glaring inconsistencies
in his tale. One of his documents claims the real Lisa Marie was replaced
with a double in 1979, and another says it was 1982.
The Swedish sleuth also fails to say what happened to the real Lisa Marie.
We are led to believe she was murdered, but Borglund doesn't elaborate.
Of course, if you believe any of what Borglund says, then you already know
what happened to Lisa Marie.
She was abducted by space aliens.

There's more weirdness on the Net involving Pearl Jam, and this one
actually makes some sense.
Surf to Mike Vander Ploeg's Pearl Jam Home Page (http:
//www.engin.umich.edu/galvin/pearljam.html) and you'll be greeted with an
invitation to check out a backwards tape loop of the Pearl Jam song, "Pry
To."
That's that short song on Vitalogy in which PJ singer Eddie Vedder
repeatedly spells out the word "privacy." It's a plea to be left alone.
Or so we thought. Played backwards, the song has Eddie repeatedly saying,
"Pete Townshend, oh you saved my life."
Pretty cool, considering Eddie is a major Who fan. And also a Beatles fan,
too, come to think of it, and the Beatles were into hidden messages.
You can download the soundbite in both 2 .wav and .au 3 formats.
Give it a try. It's at least as good as any of the "Paul Is Dead" clues.

Speaking of Pearl Jam, the band's feud with Ticketmaster U.S. over high
concert ticket service fees has prompted the company to go online in an
attempt to improve its public image.
Ticketmaster last week launched its own site on the World Wide Web
(http://www.ticketmaster.com), which offers ticket information and seating
charts for 400 stadiums, arenas, concert halls and theatres, although none
in Canada.
But the company plans to put info for 2,000 venues online, and Canadian
concert sites will eventually be included.

Last Wednesday, temperamental Irish singer Sinead O'Connor did her "one
and only" interview to advance her Lollapalooza tour appearances, and she
did it via the Lollapalooza Web site ( http://lollapalooza.com/).
"I'm scared about doing this, in case I say something I'll get beaten up
for," she said.
She told participants of her beliefs concerning God, the Universal Mother,
child abuse, celibacy, the Pope (she's still not sorry about ripping up
his picture on Saturday Night Live) and Jesus Christ.
O'Connor said she finds Jesus Christ sexy.
"I believe that Christ was a man, and therefore sexy."
But she's touring with Lollapalooza only to sing, she said.
"I therefore have nothing to fear, because I mean no harm to anyone and I
am only trying to love and help myself and others. Forget not, that I have
been growing up in public."
