As far as I can determine, this is because in Spain, the upper hierarchy of an organisation is liable for crimes committed in its name. What an excellent system! Under that type of legislation, Fishman would never have gone to jail for the frauds committed for Scientology while he was a member [Milne bait]. BUT, having seen the histrionics of Warren McShane on the witness stand, sobbing like a lost child because he was afraid to obey a judge's order, can we look forward to a similar tantrum from Heber when (if?) the Spanish court convicts him? Wisely, Spain made Scientology post $1 million bail in respect of Heber and the other twenty-odd defendants: can we expect to see Scientology lawyers (Kobby: how's yer spanish?) on the floor of the court arguing how a Scientologist can't practice his religious beliefs in a Spanish clink? When such statements get made, I will be wondering how the likes of Susan Meister and the others who died under suspicious circumstances while in the cult, or after they left, are getting on practicing THEIR religious beliefs. I think Spain is going to hit the CoS where it hurts. I hope that other jurisdictions have the good sense to watch the Spanish example closely, and deal with Scientology appropriately.
