Ever since I read up on Scientology and happened upon their bizarre
claims that their technologies would cure illnesses, I've been
wondering.
In april 1992 I published a book debunking New Age therapists, who
claim that all disease originates solely in the mind and that they can
*only* be cured by 'healing' the mind first. When the mind is healed,
the body will follow suit. Regular medical science is considered to be
completely at fault; usually however, they perceive it as a major
distraction, something that thwarts 'real' healing and provides an
'alibi' for the diseased person. (The book deals with people such as
Louise Hay, Bernie Siegel, Thorwald Dethlefsen & Ruediger Dahlke, and
Joseph Murphy. After taking their theories apart, the book continues
with a discussion of psycho-neuro-immunology and sketches a few more
laudable approaches.)
Now that I've seen CoS's claims, I am struck by the similarities
between their theories and these New Age quack-thinkers (although CoS
focuses on psychiatry instead of medicine), and I'd like to explore
this.
Is anybody familiar with CoS's health claims? Do they, too, refute all
physical, environmental, viral and bacteriological influence upon the
body and hold that it is only the mind (read: body thetans) that cause
disease? Can anybody point me to books and articles that discuss their
approach towards disabilities and diseases?
