There are two million copies of this magazine being distributed throughout the country, approximately double the total circulation of Der Spiegel. Although the German government is committing severe human rights abuses against Scientologists, individual Germans are very approachable. In Hamburg, many people at first thought that the magazine was an issue of Spiegel itself (as the cover is about Spiegel) and refused to take it. One man said, "Oh, I never buy that Spiegel, everybody knows it is the magazine that lies the most." When these people were told that the magazine contains an article criticising Spiegel, they changed their minds and eagerly took it. There were similar reactions in Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf. The magazine is not mostly about Scientology but creates considerable interest in what Scientology is among the people who read it and many have walked into our churches to find out more. One man said that even though he did not agree with everything in the magazine, he admired the Scientologists' courage in putting this information out. Many Germans have called up the churches of Scientology to ask for copies for their friends or to take out subscriptions. At 64 pages, the magazine is the largest the Church has ever published in Germany. It contains a comprehensive account of the government-instigated discrimination against Scientologists taking place in that country and gives individual case histories, as well as an account of some of the good works the Church does. I am sure that if you are German you will be able to obtain a copy as the distributors are handing them out in major cities.
