MORE UPDATES---ARRESTS, INJURIES, ETC

5 PEOPLE ARRESTED TONIGHT, VIGIL HELD TILL ROUGHLY 2AM DEMANDING THEIR RELEASE. BAIL SET AS HIGH AS $50,000. for several arrestees. ***2 INJURED FROM BEING STRUCK BY CAR, one who left to hospital has been released wtih apparently several contusions and other injuries

As for now, many of the parents and friends were not able to come up wtih the $5K bond to release their loved ones, so as of 2am or so, 4 protestors remain in detention at: ORANGE COUNTY JAIL (in santa ana) awaiting 72 hours until arraignment. At least one of the 5 was released tonight, with a crowd outside Garden Grove Police station of family, friends and those in solidarity waiting for his release.

One protestor who received among the highest charges was arrested for "assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon" (felony count), and is stil in detainment. The deadly weapon the charges are presumably accusing him / them of are flying water bottles that came randomly out of a crowd, and certain individual(s) were profiled based on where they were standing or who knows what criteria as being the potneital "water bottle throwers", even though the accused(s) did not have any possession of any bottles thru-out the night.

I believe there were 3 protestors with this charge, one of whom is 18 years old from Laguna Niguel, peaceloving Japanese-American male. We will be calling / going to the ORANGE COUNTY JAIL first thing tomorrow to attempt to visit him / them until their arraignments (at which time it is hoped that the judge will lower their bail amount and/or release them on "cognisance").

However, it is likely that the OC Jail has very limited visiting hours, and it is not likely any of us will be successful at making contact.

We are being offered no answers as to IF there are any injuries, or any SEFERITY of possible injuries.

ONE OF THE ARRESTEES WAS IN A WHEEL CHAIR. (NO, It wasn't even a power-motor'ed chair). Clearly, a chicano in a wheel chair with a heart full of passion is far too great a threat for the pinche policia to allow to roll free on our streets.

The vigil outside the courthouse lasted until Fernando was released, and at its peak was radiating with chanting "Set them Free", accordian jamming and people dancing on the sidewalks until we were threatened with arrest if we continued to chant.

This is a very grave step towards a much darker path that we collectively are embarking on. We all need to stay posted wtih ALL of those charged tonight with crimes, suppourt their court cases, and work to get their stories out.

On a broader scale---this situation is hardly over. People commented tonight that maybe tonight's incidents' would be good in letting people masses know how hateful the minutemen are. But, if you read the LA times---they are already depicting "us" as the criminals, including blaming the two people photographed laying on the ground after being virtually "run over" by a car as being to blame for the incident.

For more information, at this point, we agreed to continue postin gupdates on LA indymedia.org. However, for better contact networking options, please post here so we can stay connected on these issues.

Driver released w/o charges

I saw on the corporate news this morning, that the driver who gunned his minivan forward into a crowd of people WAS NOT held on charges and he was released last night.

It was an amazing night last night but I feel for all those injured and arrested.

To the arrested...

I was arrested in LA last year on $50,000 felony 'lynching' (lynching=attempting to free a fellow protester from police custody) charges at a protest. I successfully hyped up my work (in health-care) and volunteer activities to my public defender which in turn helped me to get a plea deal for a minor infraction. I was released and only had to pay small fines/fees. I wish you the same fate or better. Hang in there!!

Thanks everyone who came out!!

Hal Netkin

Apparently the Orange County Register reported that the alleged attempted murder was commiteed by a Hal Netkin.

Well, a quick google shows that he's called a "True American Hero" by the racists.

What a surprise.

....fuckin' losers, the whole lot of 'em....might as well take up pissing up a rope as a method of haulting illegal immigration... would be just as effective.

kualyque? aztlan nut, heh?

Oye carnal.

Raised on the Aztlan comic book, aren't you?

Just what IS it, that you found "racist" in Rudy's post? Criminals, who attack others, and damage someone else's property SHOULD BE READY to pay the price!

You are not living in the Aztlan comic book! This society has some legal standards. Of course, those who disregard the rules from day one (when they sneak in under the cover of darkness) don't much care about the law.

That's why they are considered CRIMINALS, and are NOT WANTED in this country!

¡Salga! While you still can ...

He was not charged...because the protestors attacked him

I know from personal witnesses that this report is completely fabricated! Hal Netkin's car was being attacked, his car wipers were torn off and his windows were being pounded on. His car was surrounded by yelling and some violent protestors...so in fear of not being taken out of his car as in previous riots. Hal Netkin slowly tried moving away. All injuries were exaggerated and nothing was serious. The reason he was not charged is because he did nothing wrong. He was a scared old man. The protest was out of hand... it is a shame that those who were hurt because they couldn't protest peacefully. If your c ar was surrounded and people yelling and beating down on your windows... I ask you, what would you do?

I think your witnesses lie

I just don't believe you. Your side is known for lying, and the eyewitnesses I talk to have a different story. I would be more likely to reserve judgment if your people had not accused me of lying as well (by doctoring photos). Good thing I had and posted the evidence to show that your side was incorrect in the accusations. You guys would believe anything if it suited you well. I know, I know, you really think War is Peace, Love is Hate, and ...

To 1planet....

With only one person with "minor injuries"...and video tape proving hal's innocense... whats your case? The police our on Hal's side.... Go ahead and preach conspiracy...the worlds out to get us now....

Netkin was released after police watched a videotape that showed protesters surrounding the vehicle, banging on it and refusing to move, said Garden Grove Police Lt. Mike Handfield. About 300 protesters at the scene were “trying to intimidate him and refused to let him pass,” Handfield said. By night’s end, five demonstrators had been arrested.

{snip}

The protesters blocked the entrance and tossed soda cans and cans packed with marbles at police and attendees, Handfield said. They kicked, banged and threw rocks at cars; some wore latex gloves and hoods so they wouldn’t be identified by police, Handfield said. Some attendees decided not to enter the building because they feared violence.

Re: Theres Police Video tape

Reality check: the cops say they have a video that exonerates them, so it must be true. Who's seen it? You, "Unbiased"?

We have witnesses, the cops have Handfield, so, according to the "Unbiased" comments, the demonstrators are liars, the cops are telling the truth.

"All politics put aside" my ass. Politics according to Unbiased_Va are that the police must be right be telling the truth because they're the police. I don't know anyone who's fallen for that one in forty years, except a few yokels up in the hills.

to the right-wing visitors of this site

Ok, let me understand you, right-wing visitors to indymedia. Protestors throwing water bottles at police warrant "assault with deadly weapons" charges, while white guy who ran people over with his minivan warrants praise and no charges??? Hmmmmm, interesting. Even if the protestors that they arrested did indeed throw them bottles (I don't think they arrested the actual people that threw them), was that really a deadly weapon??? Your logic baffles me.

Read your Constitution

OK, genius. How about you have one of your buddies beam you in the head with full water bottles and we'll see if you feel it's deadly? The bottom line is that the thugs (that would be the protestors) confused their right to peaceful assembly with some self-invented right to destruction of property, assault and, yes, attempted murder. I don't recall that one in the Constitution. They got off light. What's today's lesson, kids? Don't bring a rock to a gunfight.

Response to Gobbles

Hey "Gobbles" you really got some whack logic. How can water bottles be a deadly weapon against the police? They wear fucking helmets!!! You gotta be kidding me. I don't condone the throwing of water bottles, but you gotta admit that the woman that was struck at the Baldwin Park protest was hurt bad because of her age. If it had been someone younger, they would not have been in such a condition. I think it sucks that it happened, but there are some people who throw shit out of desperation (what do you expect when you go into their neighborhood and diss them like that, man? Haven't they been victimized enough? Besides, one woman in critical condition because of a water bottle can't c ompare with hundreds of years of genocide, especially was racism that drove her to that protest). Your loyalty to the status quo is pathetic. You just follow it because they're your daddy and they tell you what to believe and what to do. "Follow the law!" "Do as I say" Shit like that, you know? Besides, my point was not that water bottles were not "deadly", my point was that if water bottles were seen as deadly, then why not a fucking minivan??? Hell no the protestors were not let off easy, the white guy who ran protestors over was. There. What do you have to say to that, Joe?

Some irony for Gobbles

Hey Gobbles, I forgot to point out some ironic shit about your name. Did you choose that name, by the way? Is it a pseudonym? It doesn't matter if it is. It would actually be worse if it was, because then you would have consciously chosen it. Check this out, Joe: "Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels (October 29, 1897 – May 1, 1945) was Adolf Hitler's Propaganda Minister in Nazi Germany". I'm sure you knew that though. How could you go your whole life without knowing that someone with your name (come on, it's only a couple of letters off, it's your name!) was a sycophant for the Nazi regime. Ah, the Fatherland. I bet that when you read my first post you weren't seeing Hal Netkin as an ordinary innocent citizen. You were seeing him as someone you had to stand up for. Heil Netkin!!!

Open borders nuts

To all open borders nuts

Let me introduce myself. I'm one of the many guys the Minutemen turned down because our politics are,,,,well a little extreme. Speaking for myself I have spilled my blood for this country, so I consider it MINE.

That said, immigration is welcome if done through the legal channels. Those that prefer to ignore MY countries laws dishonor me and all those that sacrificed for the freedom this country offers and YOU ARE NOT WANTED HERE.

I will defend my country again if need be, and it won't be pretty. I suggest all Illegal Aliens reading this do yourselves a favor and take advantage of our gun laws and arm yourselves. Next, take those arms back to your own damn country and FIX IT!!

Your country is a 3rd world shithole because you have not done your job!!! Take you rebel spirts while still fresh in your minds and make YOUR country worth living in, but you will not be allowed to make America a shithole because your afraid to fight!!

The Minutemen have tried it their way, which was completely non-violent, and if you nuts continue your VIOLENT protests,,,,,,, well I guess we'll have to do it my way!

Good day
