Picket Report, Mesa AZ 11/10/01
It has been the longest time between pickets since I started
5 years ago, for a number of reasons, including the extended Arizona
summer, a heel spur, and finally the 9/11 tragedy that left the
country thinking about larger enemies and not, in my opinion,
very receptive to political or social infighting. But life goes
on, and the struggle against totalitarian groups both in and
outside the US must go on as well. So...
We picketed from 10 to 11 AM today, beautiful weather.
There were 8 cars in the org parking lot, 2 left during the
picket. One carried just the driver, the other has two people,
so I estimate that there were less than a dozen people in
the building wasting their time and money. I had not yet seen the
people who left, nor one of the others who came out to have
a cigarette. The local org seems to have steady changeover
without any growth...not a good sign for the the "fastest growing
religion on the planet".
Traffic was lighter than usual, and also less responsive.
The only thing that has seemed alive in Phoenix since 9/11
is the miracle of the World Series win.
I expect to picket about weekly again, starting from now.
Please join in.
